Victoria & Alfred Waterfront: Joy From Africa
Client: Victoria & Alfred Waterfront
Year: 2020-2023
Launched in 2019, Joy from Africa (JFA) has emerged as a transformative festive experience for Capetonians, South Africans, and international visitors, creating lasting memories. At V&A, the initiative exemplifies a more joyful approach to business, prioritizing impactful community engagement.
JFA's strategy focuses on promoting job creation and skills development among its network of makers, advocating for a responsible approach to festive celebrations.
Sustainability is a core concern, reflected in installations crafted from repurposed or sustainable materials, utilizing traditional techniques by local artisans. This includes grass-woven baskets, fabric offcuts, and recycled plastics transformed into ethical and authentic decorations.
Acknowledged with a Loeries Grand Prix and BASA Award, JFA expanded in 2023 to feature 16 festive installations curated by 246 makers and artists from 35 local businesses.
